Paul Thompson

Chief Geologist

Paul Thompson, Laredo Energy's Chief Geologist, is involved in the development of drilling opportunities, acquisition of oil and gas properties and disposition of assets from the company’s portfolio.

Before he joined Laredo in 2007, Mr. Thompson was manager of development geology for Michael Petroleum and joined Calpine Corporation after Michael Petroleum was purchased by Calpine in 2000. He was formerly employed as a Geological Advisor for Conoco Philips and as a Development Geologist for TransTexas Natural Gas.

Mr. Thompson is recognized by the Texas Railroad Commission as an expert on Lobo Trend geology and has worked throughout his professional career in the Lobo and Wilcox trends in South Texas. He received a Bachelor of Science degree in geology from the University of Tennessee, is a licensed professional geologist and is a member of the American Association of Petroleum Geologists and the Houston Geological Society.

He is a golfer and a youth baseball coach in the Houston area. He and wife, Tami, have three sons: Patrick, Drew and Nicholas.
