Gary R. Petersen

Gary R. Petersen, a member of Laredo Energy’s board of directors, is a co-founder and managing partner of EnCap Investments L.P. He formerly served as senior vice president and manager of corporate finance from 1985-1988 for Republic Bank’s Energy Banking Group, where he had responsibilities for merger and acquisition activity, financial advisory services and institutional fund raising within the energy industry.

He formerly served also as group vice president in the Petroleum and Minerals Division of Republic Bank and held positions as executive vice president and company director for Nicklos Oil & Gas Company. From 1970 to 1971 he served in the U.S. Army as a first lieutenant in the Finance Corp, and as an officer in the Army Security Agency in Washington D.C.

Mr. Petersen holds Bachelor of Business Administration and Master of Business Administration degrees, with a concentration in finance, from Texas Tech University. He is also a Distinguished Alumnus of Texas Tech, and did post-graduate work at American University in Washington, D.C., and at Rutgers University’s Stonier Graduate School of Banking.

He is a member of the Petroleum Club of Houston, the Independent Petroleum Association of America, the American Petroleum Institute, Texas Mid-Continent Oil & Gas Association, Texas Independent Producers and Royalty Owners Association and Houston Petroleum Forum. He serves on the board of directors of two public companies, Plains All American Pipeline LP (NYSE: PAA) and EV Energy Partners (Nasdaq: EVEP), and is on the board of Cordillera Energy Partners of Greenwood Village, Colorado, and Escondido Resources of Midland, Texas.

Mr. Petersen is involved in a number of community service activities; he is a trustee for the Foundation for the Council on Alcohol and Drugs, Houston, and is incoming chairman of the board of directors for the Memorial Hermann Healthcare System of Houston. He and his wife, Elizabeth, have four children: K.C., Christopher, Meyer, and Margaux. In his spare time, Mr. Petersen follows sports and enjoys golf.
